On 13th July, the government announced that they had accepted all recommendations made by the School Teacher’s Review Body (STRB) in their 33rd report, with the headline being an increase of 6.5% on all scale points asides from main pay scale 1, which for areas outside of London will increase by 7.1% in order to reach a £30,000 minimum starting salary for all qualified teachers.
The award is fully funded. However, as 3.5% has already been budgeted for, all additional monies provided will be representative of the difference between the initial 3.5% and the further backing required in order to fully fund the award.
Both the government and the teacher trade unions have released a joint statement, in which the unions themselves have recommended to their respective members that the offer is accepted.
The revised draft School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document (STCPD) will now be produced and in addition, a consultation regarding the STRB process has also been launched and will end at 12pm on 21st September. As a result, the final STCPD for 2023 will probably not be available until October 2023 at the earliest.
