New legislation came in to force on 26th October 2024 to prevent sexual harassment in the
workplace. This was introduced as part of The Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality
Act 2010) Act 2023. All employers are now expected to take ‘reasonable steps’ to prevent
sexual harassment of their employees in the workplace.

From 26th October 2024, if an employer is found liable for failing to take these steps to
prevent sexual harassment, a tribunal can uplift compensation by up to 25%.

The Equalities and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has produced guidance on
preventing sexual harassment at work, which includes a useful 8-step guide for employers
