NJC (Support Staff) Pay Award 2018/19 & 2019/20
You may recall that in April 2018, the National Joint Council for Local Government Services released confirmed details for the support staff pay award for the next two tax years (2018/19 & 2019/20). The headline increase rate for each year is 2%. However, the award is somewhat bottom-loaded in 2018/19, with points 6-19 of the scale receiving increases ranging from 3% to 9%.
The implementation of the first phase of the award was completed in the Summer Term. Looking forward to 2019/20, the second phase of the award will arrive with its own issues to tackle, mainly due to an altered 43 point pay scale which will replace the current 49 point version.
Schools will currently have their support staff grade ranges set up on the 49 point basis and work will need to be done to ensure a smooth transition to 2019/20. In the case of our school customers who are linked to the Local Authority, this will probably be a case of following their guidance once issued. However, for MATs and standalone academies, the situation may be more complicated. – 4 –
We are contemplating the provision of seminars, workshops or individual school consultancy on the issues for consideration when implementing the second phase of the NJC Pay Award. Please let us know if you think this might be useful.
