Schools and academy trusts should be aware of an important upcoming change to the administration of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS). As we have previously reported, from 1 November 2026, responsibility for administering the scheme will transfer from Capita to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
The change follows a significant programme of planning, testing and assurance designed to support a secure and stable transition for employers and scheme members. Importantly, the move will not affect members’ pension benefits, entitlements or accrued service, with the change relating solely to the administration of the scheme.
What does this mean for schools?
As part of the transition, schools and employers will need to ensure they are registered and ready to use the new TCS Employer Portal, which will become the primary platform for administering teachers’ pension records and transactions from November onwards.
Temporary Service Disruption
To facilitate the transfer of data and records, a temporary service closure period will take place from 22 October to 2 November 2026. During this time, access to online services, including member and employer portals, will be unavailable while records are securely migrated to the new administration platform.
TPS have advised that ‘If you experience an urgent life event such as a bereavement, serious ill-health, or serious financial hardship, please contact us via urgent@teacherscorp.com
These cases will be prioritised following the transition.’
Reassurance for Members
While a change in administrator may naturally prompt questions from staff, Teachers’ Pensions has confirmed that pension benefits and scheme rules remain unchanged. Members’ records will transfer securely, and pension rights will continue to be protected throughout the process.
As further updates become available, schools are encouraged to monitor communications from Teachers’ Pensions and ensure relevant staff are aware of key dates and any actions required ahead of the November transition.
